Perimenopause and skipped period

I went to my gyne and asked to have my hormone levels checked. they will NOT do this and neither will my gp....they say they are useless! Anyway I did get my gyne to give me a FSH test. Unfortunately from what Ive read online, it should be done the third day of your cycle and I had mine done like the 29th day of my cycle!

It came back as a 8.5 and the nurse said your no where near menopause....I kind of knew that I wanted to know about peri.

Does this mean my fsh test is basically useless since it wasn't taken when Im being told it should have been done? My gyne never told me to take it at any particular time

Re: Perimenopause and skipped period

Hi Hope4All,
What I do know is that peri-meno is all about fluctuating hormones, so testing is always accurate, even if you did it on schedule. In addition, gp's & gyno's don't like testing hormone levels (why I don't know, probably because they do fluctuate...), but an endocrinologist will. That's their specialty field, hormones.

Also there are some classic symptoms of peri that will tell you you're in it. Hot flashes (feeling very hot) and night sweats. In addition, coming with these or later on, irregular periods will show up. These are just the basic symptoms that are noticable, telling you what's going on. There are other symptoms with peri-meno too, such as mood swings, irritability, digestive prob's, etc. However, want to note that not all women experience them all or the same things.

For you I'd just suggest you trust what your body is telling you. And how old are you, may I ask? You could also try get a referral to an endocrinologist as mentioned, to ease your mind about it all. Good luck & God bless, ~Kaz

Re: Perimenopause and skipped period

Im 42, my period is all over the place...anywhere from 23 to 31 days, now im 9 days late and I just got a negative ept test.....I have 4 children, my last one I gave birth to at was 10yrs between her and my third child. In between those two I didnt use birth control and me and my husband have a very active sex life.

With the ept I have used them for all 4 pregnancy tests and they are very reliable for my body. Im going to have to check with an endo dr......I know my hormones are out of whack...I get angry for no reason lately and there is no reason to be angry

thanks for your information
