mouth burning and teeth pain-menopause??

Over the years, 14, of menopause symptoms, I have had such mouth pain, gradual at first, constant now. Wondering if anyone else has this? My teeth hurt all the time, like nerve pain, even the ones with no fillings. When I have dental work done, like say, a filling, the tooth will hurt for months or longer, root canals, had one last year, still hurts, cannot touch it, dentist can't figure it out. Had gum surgery also, that still hurts, 3 months later. My gums burn also. Its so hard to live with. I feel it is also menopause related. I can't handle HRT to even see if this pain would ease up. Is anyone out there like me, would appreciate ANY info from anyone. Thank you.

Re: mouth burning and teeth pain-menopause??

mcdowell: Has your dentist ever commented on whether or not you might be grinding your teeth when you're sleeping? I have to wear a night guard now because I grind.

Are you on any meds that could be causing the burning in the mouth? I have it too but I'm on meds and I think it's the meds doing it for me.

Also find out if you've got TMJ. Does your jaw pop when you open your mouth wide? Does your jaw shift to the side? If so, that's TMJ.

Try the biotene and see if it helps.

Re: mouth burning and teeth pain-menopause??

Hi McDowell,

Yes!!! I have the teeth pain too! I was just posting to another gal last week because she had mentioned it also. I did a search and yes meno can effect your teeth, bone loss, etc. I was shocked!!

I had recently went to the dentist also to see what is going on and he said I did have some bone loss but no cavities. But it is getting hard to chew, it sends a pain right through my jaw.

Geez, what's next!!!!!!

Hang in there,
