    Frustrated with OBGYN

I am so frustrated and feeling down with all this. I went yesterday to my GYN to what I thought was to discuss the second round of hormone testing. The first round came showing my estrogen and progesterone were low but my FSH and LH were within normal ranges. She ordered a second round of hormone testing but she just tested the FSH and LH and again those came out within normal ranges. She now wants to repeat my estrogen and progesterone again.

My frustration comes that she is telling me I am not perimenopausal because of the FSH and LH and all I have is a hormonal imbalance. I tried explaining to her that I have many of the symptoms of peri but she kept brushing me off. She then said I need to start using a Estradiol patch for the rest of my life!!!!!

I am in tears and so confused about all this... Thanks for letting me vent I know you guys can relate/understand my frustration

    Re: Frustrated with OBGYN

Just so you know these are all the symptoms I have:

    -anxiety-
    -heart palpitations
    -low libido
    -painful intercourse
    - moodiness/crabbiness
    -lightheaded (low sugar feeling)
-high blood pressure with my period
    -crying spells

I know there are more but these are the ones that bothered the most

Hi - I understand your frustration. I think they get it in their minds that this is what happens, and then they just want to treat you that way. It's as if they're not really listening to what you want to do, they just believe they know best. I just finished a round of progestin because of the same reason. Holy cow! I feel like I could pulverize anyone who gets in my way.

I am going to get a second opinion. Perhaps it will be the same, and I'll have to continue on this slippery slope. But perhaps not, and this doctor will have another solution. Is your doctor sending you on a certain cycle day to test the levels, or just at any random time? My estrogen was sky high but FSH LH were normal. I'm diagnosed with progesterone deficiency, hence the progestin - so it has risks but so did not taking it. However, I'm not in this for the long term. The one cycle did help, for a time. I think we have to find a balance between what we think and trust in doctors. I'm working to get there myself.

Good luck! I think everything you have listed sounds pretty normal ... :/Remember, symptoms of peri ARE caused by hormone imbalances. I hope this is helpful.

What was your FSH level? Do you not want to try birth control?

I know what you mean! I had the levels checked when I had my period and at the middle of my cycle. Now she wants to recheck levels at day 17 of my cycle.

I am seeing a GYN that specializes on hormones on Nov 11th. Will have to wait and see what this dr says about all this.

As soon as I get home I will check my results and post here my numbers. And I wasn't offered BC at all she sent me straight to HRT.

Well, HRT is the same thing except you won't have periods - unless you are doing the individual meds with varying days. To me, HRT is every day the same med and never have another period. When I went thru peri, they changed my bcp and then eventually went on a single combo pill a day type HRT and am on Activella.

Interesting. My doctor said they will only check the levels on days 3-5 of the cycle. Well, now that they are regulating "the cycle" with this progesterone I don't know if that's even an option.

Funny - my appointment with the other doctor is on November 11 as well. I'll be curious to see what your specialist says.
