Question EFFEXOR WITHDRAWALS were TERRIBLE...should I take Wellbutrin?

I recently (within the last 2 weeks) was weened off of Effexor XR 150mg which I was on for over 2 years. The weening process wasn't TOO bad, but the first week completely OFF of the meds almost made me start taking them again. I had HORRENDOUS withdrawals (still having problems, but not as bad). I am off of the meds because I have gained 65lbs in the 2 years I have been on them and while my mood was SLIGHTLY better, the weight is causing a whole new depression. SO, long story short, my doc wants me to go on Wellbutrin XL. My FEAR is that if I ever get off the Wellbutrin I will have to go through the withdrawals again. Does anyone know if there are withdrawals when you come off of Wellbutrin? My doc says NO but he didn't tell me about the Effexor withdrawals until it was TOO LATE.

Re: EFFEXOR WITHDRAWALS were TERRIBLE...should I take Wellbutrin?

Ive been on Wellbutrin for a few years now and I stopped for a week or so when my prescription lapsed one time. I had absolutly NO withdrawl symptions during that week. From what Ive read, Wellbutrin is pretty good as far as that goes. I do have a high tolerance for withdrawl symptoms and pain in general so my opinion might not be the best one, but as far as I know, Wellbutrin isnt as bad as others.

You had mentioned weight gain... Wellbutrin is a good one for fighting that. I wasnt really overweight to begin with, but I lost weight on the Wellbutrin. I have a habit of overeating or compulsively eating and when I started the Wellbutrin, my cravings for all the junk food were greatly decreased. I think its kind of the same principle of it helping smokers stop.

Id suggest trying it.
