Diabetes And Migrane Headaches

I Served Aboard Lph-2 During Desert Shield And Storm.
I Have Been Experiencing Migraines Since 96-97 And Have Been Recently Diagnosised With Type 2 Diabetes With No History In The Family. I Am Curious To See If Any Other Vets Have Had Similar Experiences Especially Marines Attached To Hmh 461 Or The 4th Meb

Thumbs up Re: Diabetes And Migrane Headaches

Yup, me too. I was on board Uss Durham and started getting cluster migraines in 99. Then in 2002 got type 2 diabetes. The diabetes I attribute to my weight gain due to having the majority of the Gulf War Illness symptoms though. Luckily, my VA doctor wrote a letter to the VA disability/pension board and told them my diabetes was a direct result of my fibromyalgia because I was much less active than before. Sorry to hear your sick too, hang in there. If you decide to try to recieve VA compensation benefits, write me back and I can help you some......................MATT S.

Re: Diabetes And Migrane Headaches

I'm a former Marine who was attached to the 4th MEB aboard ship for a time as well as in Dhahran before that. My unit was also at the border under the 1st MEF during the ground assault. I have migraines since the war. Still get them over 12 years. Sometimes they are very very severe! I call those my Gulf War headaches. I get them often. Fought the VA for Imitrex injectors. They abort the migraine within 25 minutes of injecting. Injectors work better than the Imitrex nasal spray or pills. Aborts 8 out of 10 migraines. VA gave Neurontin for migraine maintenance. Neurontin seems to prevent lesser tension-type headaches, but not the migraines.
