Diagnosed with Mono Hepatitis

After 2.5 weeks of blood tests and doctor examinations I've been diagnosed with mono hepatitis. I'm under the impression that the hepatitis part has to do with some liver complications (ie it's more inflamed than it otherwise should be). Just like regular mono conditions my spleen is also enlarged. Because there are liver issues going on I'm not allowed to take acetaminophen (tylenol), so gotta use ibuprofen (advil) instead. My doctor insists that I will recover in due time and be healthy eventually, but its been hell so far and I'm sleeping like 3-4 hours a night at most, always in a ton of pain and discomfort.

Has anyone heard of this? Any experiences? Any advice?

Thank you

I have not heard of that. But since you are in so much pain, can't the doctor give you some kind of pain pills?

Don't think so :( I've been asking but I think at this point the only option is Corticosteroids which seem pretty serious and have hefty potential side effects.

Steroids won't help with the pain (I don't think). When I have to use them it's for inflammation. I think you should perhaps ask again about pain pills and be insistent. It's hard to get well when you can't get enough sleep and rest!

What's an example of a medication that will help with pain, do you have any mind?

Well, I don't know what would go with your particular problem, given your restrictions. When I had Shingles -- which is incredibly painful -- I took something called Norco. It helped me a lot with the pain.

I think the important thing is to tell your doctor how much pain you are in, and that it is affecting your ability to sleep -- and ask him to give you something to help.
