    Post Mono - Ongoing Symptoms

    Hi all,

My wife had mono for about 4 weeks coupled with strep, she went for a follow-up visit yesterday because the symptoms are still occurring and both test showed negative. Her symptoms include fatigue and nausea persistently throughout the day. Could one still have symptoms even though the mono and strep no longer is active?

    Thanks for any insight

    Hi Jack,

Yes it is possible. It can take a lot time to get over the fatigue of mono, even if it doesn't show up in a blood test.

She's just got to take it slowly and try to avoid stress because that doesn't help.

I hope she feels better soon.

What about the nausea, is that normal to be ongoing too?

I don't know about the nausea. But I know that when I am exceptionally worn out, I do get nausea more often. Perhaps it's connected? I suspect it's part of the lingering. It takes some people a lot longer than others to recover completely from mono.

If she doesn't have any medication for the nausea, she should ask her doctor. No reason to suffer with that. Like being exhausted isn't bad enough...
