Positive mono test but zero symptoms?

Hi all,

I'm currently in my freshman year of college. I developed a sore throat after yelling too much at a college basketball game and went to our student health center after about a week with little improvement, thinking I might have had strep throat (which I have had several times in the past). I was showing no other symptoms, and in fact had run a personal best half-marathon time the day before I got checked out. The strep test came back negative, so as a formality the took some blood to do what I am assuming was a monospot test. This morning I woke up and even the sore throat had improved drastically, so I figured I was in the clear and had just had had a really bad sore throat. I was shocked when they called me this afternoon to tell me that I had tested positive for mono and basically told me to put my life on hold for the next 4-6 weeks.

I feel completely fine, and was even planning on going to the rec center tonight to lift weights with my buddies before I got this news. Should I ask to be tested again, in case there was some kind of error? Is there any way that the antibodies they tested for could be present inside me? Is it possible that I've had mono before and not recognized it, and that's why the antibodies are present? If my symptoms don't worsen, how much of my life do I have to put on hold? Could I work out? Could I ask the girl I like out on a date?

I guess I have a lot of questions. If somebody could answer even just a few of them, that would help me out a bunch.

Thanks and Roll Tide,
Jacob

So sorry for the delay in a response! It's awesome you were not feeling that bad. How are you doing now? Did you breeze through the mono?
