Please help me ... I don't know what to do

    Hello everyone.

I am having some troubling symptoms since September 2015. It all started with an eye twitch that would not stop. It then progressed to arms twitching, and finally body wide twitching. During this time, I would feel perceived weakness (I saw perceived because I'm not clinically weak, and can still do things) intensely in my right leg. I have recently started having difficulty walking (Once again, I can still squat a horse, but it feels weak) and also pain in my right hand that shoots up through my arms (I also feel weakness and a burning sensation) My grip is still very strong, so I think the weakness is perceived there as well. To sum it all up, over the course of 5 months, I had the following issues:

    Breathing difficulty (On and off)
Body wide twitching (Including the face, lips, and tongue) and cramps
a weak feeling in my arms, legs and hands
And just general pain in the limbs.
    numbness and tingling
Buzzing/popping sensation on bottom of feet

I can still lift weights just fine, button my shirt, type, write..etc. I have been seen by 3 neuros during this time. I have had 1 full body EMG (Normal, but should a mild case of unlar neuropathy in elbow, and also should the fasiculations), one single fiber EMG in the neck muscle (Normal) and three clinical exams (no hyper reflexes, clinical weakness, balance issues..etc) I was diagnosed with Begin Fasiculations. A regular person would be happy about this, but not me. I have to figure out what is wrong with my body. My obvious fear is ALS, but I have been told by all of those neuros that it isn't ALS. My next thoughts are either MG, or MS. I just don't know what else to make of this. It is completely consuming my life.

I know you all aren't doctors, but does this sound remotely close to MS, or something neurological? If not, does anyone recognize this to be anything they can think of? (Vitamin B12 or Magnesium deficiency)

    12tribes,

    Welcome.

You shared that you had spoken with neurologists, but what has been tested? Twitching can be anxiety or other causes. If you have a lot of twitching, this could cause your weakness in that your muscles could become exhausted.

MS symptoms generally last 24+ hours. They do not "come and go".

MS, if suspected, should be attended to by an MS Specialist. B12, Magnesium, Calcium, D, etc deficiencies can be easily checked with a blood test. There are over 400 known MS mimicries, Anxiety and Vitamin D deficiencies are two common mimicries. If neither of these fits, then you have to identify or eliminate 398 additional mimicries.

An MS Specialist will eliminate the mimicries and then, if all are eliminated, compare your results against the Revised McDonald Criteria. There are no specific tests for MS, but there are for MS mimicries. Your blood tests should also check for Lyme Disease.

That's very helpful. The neurologist really didn't say much, only that it wasn't ALS (Which I really, really want to believe, but I just think it is...)

ALS can be tested for....unlike MS, there are specific tests for ALS- and if you have all normal EMGs, you do not have ALS. You can rest assured your doctor is right on that one.

But what is causing this? Or is it anxiety? Anxiety is a very real disease and the fact that the doctors are not seeing this weakness, means it may be very much anxiety causing you to feel this way. Your post sounds anxious as well....

I am not writing you off or saying it is all in your head. Anxiety can be treated just like every other disease; but it needs to be diagnosed first. You state that you have seen 3 Neurologists, have none of them suggested additional help or another specialist? This would be unusual. Most Neuros wont dismiss you with no other suggestions...if you are getting no where with a neurologist, it would only be because there is nothing to treat which is neurological. Have you talked to your primary care physician? I would go back that route and ask for a full blood panel, including vitamin and mineral deficiencies- and go from there. Many deficiencies as you stated, like B12, D and Magnesium can cause twitching and overall poor health....

The fact that you are doing everything you stated you are doing- lifting weights especially more than likely means this isnt neurological. MS would have you absolutely noticing significant differences in your weight lifting ability...not to mention your balance, tolerance of exercise in general and many other things.

Go back to your primary and ask for help! I wish you the best!
