Ive had bad hip pain (mostly the right hip, but will effect both) I was DX'd with Fibro, also I have oesteoarthritis, and bursitis.
My dizziness and off balance feeling sent me to the Neuro.....he is doing an EMG/Mri of my brain to rule out MS.
Im very confused at this point.......many of my symptoms seem just like ms, but my pain seems more like Fibro.
I always thought MS was more Neuorlogical, and Pain was more Fibro. But I'm learning so much on this board...........MS can cause pain.
Hope

I have terrible hip pain. Xrays show nothing. Not yet diagnosed with MS though plenty of symptoms. Is there a link between hip pain and MS? I just though all my sporting injuries were catching up with me!

I had Xray of my hips and lower back. My hip Xray were clean, but my back Xray showed Oesteoarthritis in my lower spine.
Oesteoarthritis is very common in my family background.

Hi all-
I have not been on the board in a while. I have been dealing with MS like symptoms for about a year (no let up). After my last clean MRI, I turned my attention to Lyme and have an appt with a specialist this week. I mention it because you would be very surprised how similar MS and Lyme symptoms are! If you have joint pain, I would defintiely make sure lyme is ruled out- by a specialist! 40% of negative lyme blood tests are done on people who eventually test positive! The diease is extremely mis-understood by the medical community.
Take a look at the symptoms on Dr. Joseph Burrascano's 2005 Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines For Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses. He is one of the top Lyme doctors in the country, and many Lyme doctors follow his protocols. You can use this checklist to see if it makes sense for you to look into Lyme.
Best wishes! |

Gday Zadie - fellow Aussie - thanks for the tip re - reflux. I never knew it was also an MS symptom until reading this forum. My GP has not suggested a link, although I recognise that they too are mere mortals and often get things wrong or fail to make connections with symptoms. My medications gave me terrible side effects (even started lactating again) YUK. Who knows - I probably won't have MS - I might just be breaking down due to tiredness, stress, old age, etc, etc, LOL!

PS - Did a bit of research re - Lyme infection. Not a prevalent disease in Australia (but the research is limited). I DEFINATELY have been bitten by ticks numerous times as we are avid campers.

I am a avid camper also but have been tested for lyme neg I had my second mri last week going to nero on Thursday. I also waited nearly six months for first nero appiontment. Found out later with referal could have gone private and appionment within 6 weeks. Most do public and private consultations in Australia, where abouts are you.

Gday zadie
Im in Brisbane. Worried about going private as not sure how much the MRI I am sure he will order will cost. We are no longer in private Health. Hoping that as a public patient it will be covered under medicare. Lyme test in Australia! Wow. I've even picked two ticks off me only two weeks ago after camping at Mount Barney. Might mention it to neuro as a possibility. Sounds like there are all sorts of problems testing for Lyme in the US. I wonder if our labs are more accurate?

They tested for lyme by a blood test that had to be sent to westmead hospitial in sydney as I am in Melboourne. As far as MRI if you are refered by a specialist be it publlic or private Medicare covers the cost. But if your Doctor were to order it it would cost a couple of hundred.Did not have to pay for my two at it is bulk billed through the Hospital. You shoul d enqurie about going private if you have to wait so long, I beleive the cost with the nero will be about the same.I have gone public first visit 150 to 200 got back 100 through medicare could not claim anything through the private fund.
I could be wrong about the cost of the mri maybe someone else knows who is from australia.

Thanks Guys,
The only reason I haven't gone private is because I had an MRI of my knee after a netball injury about 8 years ago and it cost hundreds. It was ordered by an orthopaedic surgeon too. Would hate to get caught out like that this time as we have 3 kids, a mortage and the same sob story with finances that everyone bar "the Packer Family" has. today I really feel that I need to rush my appointment as I have lots of tingling and right sided weakness and BAD reflux!!!! I feel a mess yet still drag myself off to work and try not to be too much of a grump to the kids. I might ring up either the hospital or this Drs private rooms to help make a decision regarding what avenue to pursue. Thanks again for chatting.
