Wink Hello Everyone! My list of symptoms...

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I last posted anything. Hope everyone is doing OK during this holiday season.

I had a few questions in mind that I wanted to ask. First of all, I had a MRI of the brain last spring. I also had a EEG. Both came back normal. My question is: Is it possible to have lesions in the neck or even spine even though my brain MRI came back normal. I think I already know the answer to that question, but just want some reassurance. My doctor ordered me a brain MRI and an EEG. After both came back fine, he assured me that I don't have MS. I'm trying to understand how he came up with that conclusion without ordering an MRI of the neck or spine. I have a long family history of MS in the family and have a huge list of symptoms that lead me to believe that I probably have MS.

My symptom list includes the following:

Eye pain (optical nerve pain)
Abnormal pupil responses *Was tested using a flash light in a dark room by Dr.
Dysarthria (slurred speech)
Muscle cramps
Myoclonus, Myokymia (jerking & twitching of muscles) *My main issue!
Restless leg syndrome
Paraesthesia (partial numbness, tingling, buzzing or vibration sensations)
Neuralgia, Neuropathic and Neurogenic pain *In the back of my neck! Very painful!!!
Trigeminal Neuralgia (facial pain)
Vestibular Ataxia (abnormal balance function in the inner ear) *Big problem!
Vertigo*Mild vertigo at times.
Speech Ataxia (Problems coordinating speech, stuttering) *I have my off days!
Sexual problems
Depression, mood swings, bipolar syndrome, Anxiety *A huge problem in my family!
Cognitive dysfunction (Short-term and long-term memory problems, forgetfulness, slow word recall) *I have my off days as well!
Fatigue *A big problem as well!
Headaches, Migraines *All the time/daily headaches.
Pins & needles sensation *In different regions of body, but only lasting a second or two.

And this is only to name a few! My mother has MS, my mother's sister (my aunt), & my mothers two uncles (my great uncles) have/had MS. My two uncles are no longer living. One of which ended his life in September of this year (RIP) due to his MS & suffering. As you can see there is a family history of MS & I have more than my share of symptoms. I am young (25 years old), but am not dumb. I know I have something, but haven't been confirmed by the doctors yet. More than likely it will be confirmed in about 5-10 years when my symptoms get worse.

Anyways, if you have any advice, I'm all ears! I can use some reassurance right now in my life. Thanks for taking the time to read my post & I wish you as well as your families a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Re: Hello Everyone! My list of symptoms...

The only advice I would even begin to give you is go see an MS specialist. Anyone can make an appointment, and it is their job to both confirm or rule out MS....no other doctor is going to take this seriously, as your symtoms are too lengthy and too "all over the place". I have MS, and I have 3 of your sytmoms. Thats not to say that you dont have it, you certainly have something going on...but the only way to know for sure is to see an MS doctor and let him or her do their job...
good luck

Re: Hello Everyone! My list of symptoms...

Welcome andreahollyann.

The thread is quite old, however the symptoms are not outdated (from those the original poster mentioned).

If you suspect that you may have MS, talk to your family doctor about going to a neurologist for further investigation. You'll likely need to begin with an MRI of the brain/optic nerve/spine with and without contrast. The neurologist will take it from there, as there are other tests (evoked potentials, blood work to rule out mimics, lumbar puncture).

We'd love to hear your story, so please do create a new thread and introduce yourself .

Re: Hello Everyone! My list of symptoms...

Does anyone have these sensory symptoms daily? Maybe some days are better than others? I have yet to receive dx, have normal LP, but I have small white spots on brain MRI, but neuro says they are not the the typical spot for MS. Had neg evoked potentials, neg blood for lyme, lupus. Have had these symptoms for 4 years, mostly dizziness, imbalance, restless leg, intermittent pain in limbs, rocking/swaying feeling, eye pain on and off., burning flashes in thighs, vibrating feet sometimes. Daily symptom is mainly the imbalance and the just feelign crappy and tired.
I am afraid since I feel like this most of the time, then I have progressive MS and I will be in a wheelchair in 5 years. But I cannot get a DX and I am seeing one of the best MS specialists in the state of FL. He is so obsessed with the McDonald criteria for dx.
Very frustratiing. He thinks that I could have a migraine problem, but I don;t know how a migraine problem can cause the arm and leg tingles and weaknesss.

The McDonald criteria is generally what neurologists will refer to in diagnosing Multiple Sclerosis. Please keep in mind that there are hundreds of 'mimic' conditions to those of MS. That's why a criteria must be consulted, along with the appropriate testing. Diagnosing MS is ultimately a process of exclusion.

Migraine can cause tingling and weakness. It can also cause white spots to appear on an MRI. I've been a life long migraine sufferer as well.

I'm diagnosed RRMS (relapsing/remitting) and while I do have a lot of sensory symptoms (these make up the bulk of my MS symptoms), they come and go in intensity day to day. Some days, I don't feel any tingling in my legs, others it's non stop.

When you had your MRI, was it done with and without contrast? There's a strong chance that they would not have found my MS lesions had they not done the contrast MRI along with the non-contrast. Did they only MRI your brain, or were other areas, such as your spine, also MRI'ed?

Some diagnosed with MS do present with a negative LP.

On the migraine side of things, was your neurologist able to make any recommendations for treatment of this condition, if they truly feel it's migraine?

Nenu - Yes, I have had 6 MRI's, all with and without contrast in the past 4.5 years. My neuro wants one every 6 months. Most of just the brain, but I did have one of the neck, but it was normal and neuro didn't feel we needed to keep doing the spine since it was clear. My white spots have remained unchanged all 4.5 years.
As far as the migraine thing, he sugessted anti-migraine meds, but I was birthcontrol pills most of this time and now I am trying to get pregnant, so I was hesitant to try them.
But my symptoms are far to strange to chalk up to migraine. Sometimes I get this weird sensation in my head when I am tired. I happens for a split second, but it feels like my bloodsupply is cut off and I go blank for a second. It's so wierd. Alos, restless legs, restless body, hot spots, vibrating.. days on end. Some days worse or a little better than others. It's so strange. I am 35, trying to start a familly and I feel like CRAP everyday.

Drean77 - yes, there is blood work they do for Lymes disease which apparently cam sometimes be a false negative, but my Dr. doesn;t believe I have it.
