Question memory problems

I went for neuropsyche testing back before my diagnosis in March and it said I had a high IQ but slow responses. My Memory is getting worse and I have been given a script for Namenda I have not started. I can't remember words, I went to an appointment today which wasn't scheduled until the 27th. My husband kept telling me the 27th, but I just had it in my head today. I drive and then wonder where I am at very familiar places and wonder why I am there, and where I am going. I can't read some words they don't look right, same with spelling. I can't copy numbers correctly when they are spoken to me. I repeat everything everyone tells me so I can remember it and it annoys my kids no end. I have people say, "Hi Dawn." and I still don't recognize thier faces. I can't follow directions, written for simple games. I forget things in the oven. I write down everything now, but it has only helped me 80% of the time 20% I just plain don't remeber things right. In my mind I live a lot of memories over and over again and have strong feelings again.

Anyone else this bad? Or worse.

Re: memory problems

I have not experienced memory problems as you stated. When I am impaired cognitively, I have driven the wrong way on my way home.....You might want to have the doctor run additional tests for other possible causes. Please let us know how you do.

Re: memory problems

Tee Hee. Jayhawk, that made me laugh. I did the exact same thing more than once in the beginning of my dx! Scared me. I was on very familiar roads and all the sudden panicked, because nothing looked familiar! Because Im a sales rep and cant afford to have this happen (im in the car about 10 hours a day), I went out and bought a Navigation system. Now, when Im headed home, I simply hit the home key- and no matter where I am, it gets me there!
Interestingly enough, since I bought it, it hasnt happened to me anymore. I think it was a combination of anxiety and being overwhelemd with the whole MS thing which told my mind to shut down.....its back, apparently.

Re: memory problems

Those kind of memory problems are some of my biggest issues. It is so frustrating when you are trying so hard to be so careful not to make the mistakes, then get your bills returned to you for putting the wrong numbers on them, or sending the phone bill to the electric company.
I'm a Realtor, and I get lost in our small town. I get scared, and show up late for showings (homes I've got under contract even, so I've been there a few times, recently) because I can't find the house.
I have a nav system, too for this reason. It doesn't work great over here, though, and the street names are hard to remember, as most of them start with K and end in A with about 30 letters in between. Our maps are the pits, too.
I find that when I get overwhelmed by being lost, whether on the road, or at my desk in the middle of paperwork, I am useless, and trying to get through it seems to make it worse.
I was always so bright, and now I feel so mentally challenged.

Re: memory problems

Thanks for your replies. This helps to know I am not alone. Most of my lesions are in the frontal lobe. That is why my memory is so affected. You are right about the stress and frustraition making it worse.
