Post Epstein-Barr virus:trigger for onset of ms and lupus

This was in the newspaper today. The source: The Hartford Courant

The article is about teachers and their risk rate for 13 autoimmune diseases vs other professions. It was 2.3% for teachers and 1.7% for other professions.
It stated that teachers are exposed to an infectious agent early in their careers. Also, high school teachers had a higher death rate from autoimmune diseases than elementary school teachers. The researchers said they may be more likely to have exposure to Epstein-Barr virus, which causes mononucleosis, a condition that often afflicts teenagers and is considered a trigger for onset of multiple sclerosis and lupus.

Stephen J. Walsh, assistant professor of community medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center based the study on 11 years of examining death certificates compiled by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

This has actually been in controversy for several years. Eppstein-Barr has been linked to weakening the auto-immune system, however, it is quite common in people who do not develop lupus, MS or other types of immunity break downs. Most studies I have seen about Eppstein-Barr link it more toward fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Let me know if you see any more.
