Is it MS?

Hi everyone, im very glad I found this site. After a bad accident and putting out 5 discs I was diagnosed with fibro and ive tried to get on with things and live life around the sleepiness and aches and pains. However, for about a year ive noticed a few other things that started to scare me a little. The most scary one is my breathing, at times I just dont seem to be able to take a deep breath and when I try its lots of little breaths and it hurts like hell around my ribs and a kind of burning pain in my ribs. Ive also had a lot of numbness and tingling in my hands even going up my forearms.
I thought I would check out my firbo site and just see if anyone else has this, which led me to the ms site. Im quite scared because I could honestly click on every symptom, bowel and urine problems, loss of sex drive, and most frustrating of all is the speach, its just all muggled up and then I forget what i was trying to say which leads to major frustration and tears. Can anyone advise me what to do? I should say that im on morphine for my back injury, also gabapentin for my legs, ammitryptaline to help with depression and sleep and paracetamol, ibuprofen now and again. any help would be fantastic, thank you x

Re: Is it MS?

Welcome. You are on several meds for various concerns. I would, therefore, recommend that you speak to your rheumatoid specialist or your GP for a referral and why you want a referral. Tell them what you are thinking and let them help you sort things out. If there is enough evidence to pique their interest, ask for a referral to see a neurologist who specializes in MS. Some of the various maladies you listed can be the underlying cause for what you are going through at this time.

I would not want to presumptively tell you that you have MS because it is, to me, too difficult given your pre-existing conditions. Could you have MS? Maybe. Work with your doctors. All of the symptoms you mentioned could fit a myriad of maladies.

You need to try to avoid the anxiety and worries over what "might be" because if you lose control over these feelings or allow them to become deeper seated, they can present with MS like symptoms.
MS diagnosed since October 3, 1982
MS onset circa 1977

Re: Is it MS?

My doctor has pretty much ruled out MS with me--and it is a process of ruling it out. I suggest that you tell a doctor all of your symptoms and then he/she can start doing the tests--such as MRI's to see if there is any evidence of it. I know you're feeling miserable and worried, so see if you can get in soon.....

Re: Is it MS?

I have lesions on my brain stem from MS that make breathing difficult. Narcotics make it worse. If it started about the time you were given pain meds, I would look into that possibility.
