Question Numbness Right Side Ear, Arm, and Leg, but Left Side Inside Mouth/Tongue.

My wife has been experiencing numbness that has been increasing over the past 2 weeks. She has had some problems navigating around while walking, bumping into this and that, and she complains that her sense of taste has become so diminished that she must concentrate to taste and, even then, the taste may be distorted. Her right ear is numb to the touch as is the skin surface of her right arm and leg. She is also experiencing ringing in her right ear. She complains that the tips of her fingers are tingling and becoming numb. Overall, this seems to be an increasing condition, not diminishing and the symptoms are continuous. A visit to the doctor this week yielded nothing other than to monitor the symptoms for worsening, at which point we would schedule an MRI. He mentioned MS as a possibility. A blood test ruled out infections.

I have read several threads on here about similar conditions but they all seem to include other symptoms that she does not have. I have read some about B12 deficiency, fibromyalgia, and she HAS been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis since 2004. I would appreciate anyone with SAME symptoms that has information about this.

Welcome "neighbor" one of my nephews is interning at Wolfcreek.

I would recommend taking your wife to see Dr. Sharon Lynch at KUMC. She specializes in MS and would be an excellent doctor for your wife- I have seen her since 2003 when I moved back to Kansas and I started my MS journey at KUMC.

Thank you for that. I guess the idea is to assume it is MS unless and until it is discounted. I have a friend whose wife has it and just had an intense bout with it. She just went back in to KU med last week. Not looking forward to this journey. I am currently trying to rehab after Stage 4 throat/neck cancer and ready for a break of any kind, if possible.

You certainly have load to carry right now with your own cancer battle. Your health is certainly a stress event. Does your wife handle tress? Does she have any anxiety or depression? I ask this because stress events can often bring MS to the surface or ke symptoms. I certainly hope you get through your battle and your wife finds the right answers. Your friend's wife has MS, but if your wife has it too, you should not expect the identical problems because it affects each of us differently.

Yes, I would assume MS or a neurological concern. There are over 400 diseases to eliminate, but I think that you will get the right answers at KUMC. You are both in my prayers.

Thumbs up Re: Numbness Right Side Ear, Arm, and Leg, but Left Side Inside Mouth/Tongue.

Thank you sir. We are so appreciative of the prayers. I appreciate your obviously experienced advice and respect that there is no way to diagnose something like this via the internet. Your energy is an inspiration, giving me hope even at this early stage. God bless you and help you to continue your aid to others. THANK YOU!

You are very welcome. I think that you have made the right choices and are moving in the right direction. Take care of yourself and get through your own health crisis. The stress you are feeling for your wife's situation can adversely affect your own health recovery. Do give us an update when you have it and come back with your questions as often as they arise. You are among friends.

Re: Numbness Right Side Ear, Arm, and Leg, but Left Side Inside Mouth/Tongue.

Hi This is my first time on this site, i have MS and each person is very different. However most MS suffers have a range of symptoms that are similar to a degree, but your wife may have just one of them. I has MRI in 2002 that showed lesions on multiple parts of my brain. I had double vision and thats why i had MRI. Funny thing for the fist time ever i have pins and needles in my right ear and that what made me open you question. although i have a range of symptoms i work full-time (although of ill at present, i hope to get back soon. If i was your wife i would push your Doc to do MRI now.
