not diagnosed yet !!!
Hi everyone, I have readso much about the symptoms of ms as my doctor said we r ruling this out!! Everything I have read so far points to that direction. At the moment the only symptoms ihave is constant tingling in my feet and calf. I think I have just gotten over a flare up. It started with mild tingling in my right calf and foot then went to feeling like I was having a diabetic pin test in leg instead of finger. Lasted for weeks then doc put me back on pednisolone again (which used to be my best friend but headache took days to settle this time)I don't have diabetis, anyway things just got worse, cloudy head, headaches, stabbing pains everywhere,I could go on for ages. Over the last four years I have been up and down like a yoyo. Back injury is what they kept putting it down too, 2 epidurals in spine to stop restless legs. Both times worked only to come back with new symptoms. Depression for no real reason. Had a nerve conduction testand I don't know what u r meant to feel but it was horrible. No light shocks!! It was intense even in my hand he said tell me when u feel it in ur thumb. Felt nothing in thumb at first but the pain up palm to middle finer nearly made me cry. When I got home I felt so drained and
swollen. Everything fits. All the things I've been complaining about but kept getting told u r ok. Repeat vit b12 shots I'm shattered

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
Me again sorry. The neuologist wouldn't tell me anything. I have to wait till I go back and see rheumatolist which isn't till next month as I still have to have mri. I had so many things going on that I was starting to think it was in my head, but after reading about ms, I'm sure now something is going on. Its hard when u feel ok but u know somethings not right. I would say I have the shakes today but no one sees this. Very poor concentration makes me feel rude but sometime I feel like my lights r on I'm just not home but when I am I'm so with it , ha lots of counselling to deal with personal issues as I thought I was loosing it. Now I can see a light. Want results so I can get things under control, which I think I cam do if I know what I'm dealing with. I'm 46 and have been going down hill of and on for aleast 4 years. Longer when I write down symptoms a medication over the years.

Welcome back! or should that be welcome again! ;)

As you transition into spring, you might feel better. I feel best in the spring and autumn.

As to dismissing the possibility of MS, what is the specialty of the doctor who decided this? The case for MS is made after eliminating what you do not have. While an MS Specialist may move towards a diagnosis of MS, if something else is found, the diagnostic process needs not to go further if the cause is found. At that time you would have an answer and if it is not MS, you would also have a referral to see another specialist.

If you have not been seen by an MS Specialist, I would encourage you to do so. Have you had an MRI or a VEP (visual evoked potential)? The VEP is non-invasive and not painful like the nerve conduction test can be.

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
By the way, you live in a beautiful spot! I drove along the coast to get to Sale to see a client one day long ago. I took the scenic route and passed by your town. Most of my travel was west of Melbourne, but I must say, you have such a lovely location! The winter temperatures might play against you if you have MS, but the views are priceless!

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
I have had blood work which comes back normal then when I feel yukky we do another only to see vitb12 is low. Had an mri four years ago for back injury. I have degenated disc, arthritis of T 67&8 lots of trouble with right leg and hip. . My posterior tibulas muscle has thinked. Lots of massage to get muscles to let go as I can't do it with just stretching lately my physio has been saying neural but rheumatologist doesn't think so. I eat well and take sleeping pill to help me tay asleep , can't understand what keeps knocking me off my chair. I go to doc with all these things I want to tell him but I have to go when my head is clear or I don't tell all. I'm scared. My list is so long. The last few days I'm so with it mentally even though I still feel shakey inside and still have tingles. Mrl at the end of month.

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
Bloodwork being normal is good. Blood tests are good to provide vitamin/nutritional deficiencies as well as to eliminate possible blood borne causes. MS does not have any specific test, rather it is a series of tests to eliminate known diseases. Your MRI for the possibility of MS should be with and without contrast and include your head and at least your C-Spine. I think an MS Specialist will be good for you. Perhaps after your MRI you might have more evidence to back you.

An MS Specialist can look past your pre-existing back problems and arthritis. I get severe left hip and left femur pain, but mine is MS and not arthritis.

As you have some pre-existing problems, I would encourage you to look at the other boards on this sight and make an inquiry or just read the posts and perhaps you will find others who fit your situation too. In the meanwhile, stick around the MS board and know that you are not alone. I hope you get answers soon!

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
I have looked at other things but not all syptoms match. My pains are not balance on either side. Sometime my balace is off at one stage it took all my concentration to get the right leg to move properly. It back now. I drop things a lot I'm right handed so I do everything with the right. But someties its not easy. When walking some times feels like leg gives out and I have to regain control. It was my GP who saig they r ruling out ms. Those words were hard to hear but in saying that if it is as I said I will know what I'm dealing with and will be able to cope better. I've been listening to my body and sleeping longer if I wake still tiredafter already sleeping 7-8 hrs. I'm just confussed, scared and wnt to say I told u something was wrong why didn't they listen early!!!! I'm not a pushy person but I'm learning to be lol

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
You need to certainly be pushy! :) :) :)

Dropping things would certainly wake me to know something was wrong. You might want to line up an MS Specialist regardless of your GP's opinion. You have a few in your area and the MS organization in Australia can lend you a hand as they have rest and recuperation homes as well as lists of doctors. :angel;

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
Thankyou. I will do that. It feels gone to be back if that makes sense. When insaw the rheumatologist I was in one of my I cnt think moments. Since then I have got it together and wrote down all things that have been going on for years. I have unexplained depression or at least that what they say sometimes I'm so rattles I just cry. I hate this feeliing. I hate complaining and it feels like that's all I do!! Thankyou just talking to someone helps.

I can truly empathize. MS can cause depression or depression can cause MS like symptoms, BUT I think walking in limbo land can cause depression! MS also can affect your emotional threshold. Since my MS worsened in 2002, unexplained tears are just part of my walk with MS.

Once you can get together with a doctor who does not dismiss you as being "silly", then you can get to healing. The MS Specialists I have seen have all been great, though there are some who clearly need to change their bed side manner, and if they are following the Revised McDonald Criteria, then you should not be far off from some real answers. I will be keeping you in my prayers!

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
Hi all, is this something to worry about? I woke again this morning with another head ache. Feeling real hot. Went back to gp who said blood pressure is slightly up. Ordered another blood test. Full count c reative and I can't think what the last one was. He wrote urgent and asked me to come back tomorrow. I have a nice size very dark bruise where they took blood. Get a lot of bruises off and on. Back on prednisolone for 5 days for headache. Its only been 3 days since the last lot

MSJayhawk 08-17-2012 06:44 AM

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
Common side effects of prednisolone are: Acne; clumsiness; dizziness; facial flushing; feeling of a whirling motion; general body discomfort; headache; increased appetite; increased sweating; nausea; nervousness; sleeplessness; upset stomach.

NOW, please note that EASY BRUISING is a sign of a severe side effect of prednisolone and the Pharmacy book indicates that immediate medical attention should be taken.

I do not wish to alarm you, but I would encourage you to have it reviewed.

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
Ok I understand that. That medication used to be my best friend. I would eat more have more energy. Just felt normal head ache would go within 2 days. But I went for headache problem less than 2 weeks ago. 50ml of pred every day for 5 days still felt tired and only had one good day of energy. Headahe cleared after 5 days. .stayed away for 3 days. No pred on these days. Started that again today. I gues what I'm asking is even though I had a break for a few days it still could be the pred? Bruises I've had off and on stages just now have to think if I was on pred. I can count atleast 7 times in the last year I have been put on pred. 50mg for 5days sometimes taking it down to 25ml for further 5 days then stop.

Re: not diagnosed yet !!!
If you have been on prednisolone many times, there are residual side effects which build up and it becomes less and less effective. You need to speak to the doctor about how long they can keep giving this to you.
