    Question Could this be MS

I take Lithium (Bipolar) and Neurontin (for anxiety)
Had a baby 11 months ago

fatigue and weakness. Very tired throughout the day. Don’t know why. Wake up that way.

Tingling in my legs, feet (always) and my hands too. Feels like things are crawling on me sometimes. started before i went on Meds above

Feet vibart (just stated a week or so ago may 24 today)

Shooting pain in my arms. starts at wrist and shoots back up to my elbow.

Sometimes when i lay down it feels like waves going through my legs, starting at my back. Feels like on on a boat are in water kinda. Doesn’t happen as much anymore might be because of the meds tho. Use to keep me up at night along with the *****ly feeling

Tingling in my neck and shoulders. I’ve even had my neck to hurt. lately it has been tingling going down my back (comes and goes)

left arm has pain that shoots up and then stops only last a few sec

Dizziness and light headed sometimes usually when standing up. Reach for something and still feels like i’m moving kinda spinning. only last a few seconds. (comes and goes)

eyes getting kinda of hazy. Tony had to come and get me one night, I couldn’t see the road. (could be the meds)

Double vision stard month ago /feels like me eyes go crossword. no

Back pain / shoulder pain Tingling . When my daughter was in the hospital The tingling became worse in back. A perfect band showed up and ran across my back where my bra line of burning and tingling(last 5 days) Thats when i started to walk funny. Like my legs were very stiff

When I came home with my daughter from the being in the hospital with a UTI, thats when the leaning to right started, almost like i could fall over sometimes. (last 2 or 3 weeks) felt sick feeling

Tailbone hurts along with my hips sometimes (comes and goes)

Frequent urge or need to urinate. Hard to urinate . have strong urges to go but i sit pushing the pea to come out. Can’t hold my bowels/ had a couple of accident usually during the night/ also difficulty starting to urinate

I had constipation and diarrhea (could be the meds) usually if i have constipation it will follow with some diarrhea

Just got over this deep depression I was in (lasted about 3 weeks) Don’t think i was ever that depressed. But my depression comes and goes, been like that for years.

    Angry outburst.

Sharp shooting pain on the right side of my head. Head tinglings on days this happens.

numb tingling feeling on face. doesn’t hurt tho

sometimes when something touches me i get a weird sensation in that area. like a burning cold feeling. never can tell which one and doesn’t last very long. Just about daily it will happen with out something touching me.

Have problems memory things. sometimes i will be in middle of a sentence and forget what i was saying. Can’t talk straight. especially when my child was in the hospital. I do it a lot at home. I have a hard time explaining things to my husband and can’t find the words. like where somethings at. My attention span sucks. Makes me not want to be around people. I have a very hard to being organized. when i use to be a very organized person. language problems

    Re: Could this be MS

    Renee13,

    Welcome.

Could it be MS? Yes. BUT it could be many other things too. You shared anxiety, depression, and emotional problems. These things can present with MS like symptoms and if they are not controlled, the likelihood is that one of them might be the culprit. If you have control over these, then other testing can be rendered.

There are over 400 MS mimicries. Of these, three of them are in my opening paragraph. Restless legs (or the feelings you described) can be early signs of Parkinson's too.

You would best be served by having blood work completed and then, based upon your results determine if a neurologist is the right direction. If MS is probable, seek an MS Specialist. If Parkinson's is probable, seek a Parkinson's Specialist. If it is mental, thee are also neuro-psychiatrists whose specialty could benefit you.

At this time I would encourage you to sit with your doctor and discuss your symptoms and ask for testing and if needed a referral. Absent testing, it is impossible to say with any certainty what you do or do not have.

Thanks for sharing. I hope you can find some support in this part of your journey. If you need to learn more or ask more about MS, please do not hesitate to inquire further! You are not alone. Many have been through limbo land and emerged with definitive answers. You deserve the same.

    Renee13,

Great job! I still write things because it is easy to forget for me. I only see my MS Specialist every 6 months and I find it easy to forget things. I hope things go really well for you!

    Renee13,
I just wanted to also say good job on realizing that this could be one of a zillion things....youve obviously been under some stress, and that can play havoc on the body...but your physicial symptoms could be as simple as a vitamin deficiency as well. Please do see the neuro soon, as they will order a ton of blood work and standardized tests to start ruling things out! I hope this inst MS, but there is no reason to jump to that conclusion at this point....
Please keep us posted and please feel better soon.
    Nikki

    Re: Update! & Question?

I meant to tell you guys that i have been taking neurontin for anxiety and lithium for bipolar for 5 months now. Had a baby 11 months ago and stop breastfeeding 5 months ago. I had posted another post like a week ago and it ended up in neuropathy message board. Which isn't bad, but just donít know how it did that. Hope i make since.

Also I got my blood work back. My Vitamin D was low. So I start taking 50,000 unit once a weekÖ.what does that mean? Does it mean it was really low? I been really down this past year, and didnít go out much (lack of sun), but iím getting out a little more now. I donít like the heat to much. But My neurologist said that the vitamin D is not the cause of my symptoms. So I go get a MRI of my brain on the 29th of this month. I feel blessed that I have a great Neurologist.

So iím determined to find out what is going on with me. Iíve had symptoms of gallbladder attack. Pain under my right rib (sometimes my left) that eventually shot up into my shoulder and then my behind my right eye and I had headache on that side, along with diarrhea for 3 weeks. That finally just stop. But i have had pain under my ribs before and at the same time my appendix area had pain too , So I went told my doctor about it and he sent me to get a ultrasound. Came back normal. I even had my torso area to tighten up almost like contraction and it seems like i really had to work at taking a breath. So my next step is to see a gastroenterologist(can't spell).

I also have some crazy pain in my back; numbness, and tingling that come and goes (sometimes lower and sometimes upper). I even had a perfect band/strip show up on my back where my bra line is, but the band was wider and went from one side to the other side of my back. So i have been reading about Transverse Myelitis and was wonder if it could cause that or what other things could it be. I hadn't yet talked to my neurologist about TM (I forgot on my first appt) but I will bring it up on my next apptÖ..if i donít forget again...lol

I should also add that i was the very depressed and felt fatigued them 3 weeks when i was having the what i call the gallbladder attack. But iím determined to get to the bottom of thisÖ.lol

Last night i had some crazy pains in my legs. Like shooting pains, but isolated. It almost made me fall a couple of times.

Sorry this is so long, I donít want to leave anything out when it comes to symptoms, I feel if you leave something out, others or doctors might not see the whole picture. Thanks for reading!!!

    Re: Could this be MS

hi there. You wrote 'i have been taking neurontin for anxiety and lithium for bipolar for 5 months now." Neurontin, is an anti-seizure drug which is used for nerve pain. Not anxiety. IT is used for diabetics who get foot related nerve pain and for MSers who also complain of pain...but it wont touch anxiety. Thats a different class of drugs altogether. Drugs such as Xanax or Valium can help with anxiety.

I really hope you add that to your list of questions when you see your doctor, or , if you are really in distress, call your doctors office and ask them to call you back and possibly you can get in sooner. With a new baby (congratulations!) you really need to be on top of your game!

    Re: Could this be MS

Thank you very much. yea I told my neurologist about the meds that I'm taking. I even ask if that could cause some of my symptoms. I know the neurologist check my lithium levels too. But my Psychiatrists (i think that is what you would call her) mental health doctor. But she said the neurontin is used to treat anxiety as well. When my blood work came back my lithium levels were normal and the only thing was my Vit D was low, so moving on to the MRI next. Xanax and valium would make me too sleepy, which i wouldn’t mind if i didn’t have a soon to be one year old who is very active! Plus they are addictive.

    Re: Update! & Question?

    Renee,

    Thanks for sharing.
Vitamin D at 50,000 iu once a week is a prescription dosage. It is usually given to boost your D levels higher and then you would follow with a daily dosage of D3 which is purchased without a prescription.

Since you have various meds and doctors involved, please make sure they are all on the same page with you regarding your meds including your GP or Pediatrician for your baby.

Post pregnancy recovery may be having an impact on you yet. Communicating all the symptoms with your doctors can help you stay on top of things.

Depression and your other feelings can be related to your pre-existing health as well as your post-pregnancy. Again, make sure all your doctors are on the same page with you.
