    Shaun,
We are with you to the resolution. I sincerely hope we can say good-bye to you without MS, BUT if you have MS, you are more than welcome. People with anxiety can be MSers too. Your posts and experiences can benefit others who find themselves in similar circumstances. There have been others like you who have found that they had MS while other found they did not. I certainly hope that you do not have MS

    Re: Anxiety ms worry

    Shaun,

Facial numbness could be due to any number of causes, including anxiety. Note your symptom in your journal as to the length of duration and severity. If you were anxious prior to this 24-36 hours, this could be a manifestation. This is something the doctor can help you resolve.

When my facial numbness is severe, I have to be careful when I eat so as to not bite my inner cheek. For me, drinking ice cold water helps me alleviate some things, but I usually have to let it run its course.

    Do your best.

    Shaun,

An anxious mind can cause quite convincing symptoms, but you need objective data backed-up by tests. This is where the doctor comes into resolve the issues. Until you see the MS Specialist and the psycho-therapist or the neuro-psychiatrist, IF it is due to anxiety, your mind will continue to deceive and mislead. If you have MS, your symptoms and objective data will prove MS.

If you accept that you have MS, then what? MS is not fatal and does not end your career. If you sincerely believe you have MS, get the diagnosis. You have to meet the Revised McDonald Criteria. Either way, it is something that you need not be anxious concerning your family and career. Give your diagnosis to the doctors to handle and be willing to accept what they tell you.

I had a neighbor who was convinced that each week she had something new based upon her favorite TV doctor's episode. For her, she was constantly anxious and the TV episode fed into her cycle of worry. It is real and a never ending cycle unless you literally break the cycle. Again, your doctors can help. Look at the objective evidence and accept it.

    Angel,

Thanks again for your reply I know I sound like a broken record but the symptoms really scare me! I literally cannot sleep I can't concentrate on anything I constantly alternate my worries from Ms one minute and brain tumor the next, but I have noticed when I get the headache and facial numbness round chin etc I tend to focus more on a tumor. What I wouldn't give to just be normal again, honestly my chin feels like it's not there unless I touch it it's horrible

    Shaun,

Accepting that nothing is physically wrong is difficult when your mind comes into play. When the things play upon your mind, strike back and exercise or do something to distract your mind, even if it is during the night.

    Re: Anxiety ms worry

    Shaun,

The things you do now are rote and habitual. You need to introduce something new. You should do something new because it requires your mind to refocus. When I needed to rehabilitate my right hand in 1982, I learned to crochet. I still use it as needed. Because it is "unnatural" for me, my mind focuses heavily on the crochet techniques.

I would try to do something new, but not totally out of norm, that is, it can be a tangent to what you know. For example, if you like models, build a model of a sailing vessel if you like airplanes. It requires you to pay attention because things are different.

In 2002 my rehabilitation nurse had me building with Lego blocks. My son had a glorious time as we built mountains and villages and train layouts. When your mind starts to wander back to the "abyss" change things again. Keep your mind continually distracted.

    Re: Anxiety ms worry

    Shaun,

Continue to journal your symptoms. When my head feels cold, it is usually when the temperature reaches 52 F (11.11 C). This is my tolerance at the lower end. I will wear a sock cap for most of the winter months.

Head pain can vary too. Depending on my head pain, I have dark chocolate or a caffeine drink.

The things you have shared still appear to be anxiety related, I think. Your doctor can sort it out for you. Try to do something new. For a while I used to power lift. I cannot do this any longer, but when I did, it was fun. You concentrate on the lift and the technique and you do not focus on other things, Because you are not yet sure that this is all just anxiety, keep it low impact. Try taking time to swim each day. It is an activity you can do with your kids.
