Unhappy New to Polymyoitis

my mother was diagnosed with polymyoitis in April 2011. She was a very active person prior. can anyone please tell me if this disease affects the gi tract? Such as the intestines. She is reports that she can no longer taste anything. She complains that everytime she eats, it feels as if she is about to throw up. I have been unable to find anything to help her with this problem. We are at a complete lost. She had been admitted to the hospital on 28 jul because the amount of the prednisone had raised her BS to 385 and she had passed out. MY mother has lost approximately 15 pounds in a matter of three weeks. When she was released from the hospital on 2 Aug, she was unable to walk for the first week after she arrived home, she was bedridden. She now lives with me. I have been reading several posts and it is like I am reading about her situation give or take some differences. If anyone can give me advice it will be greatly appreciated
