Nails in bad way after using varnish

    Hi All

I decided to grow my nails long and paint them. This is after twenty years of having short nails. I've always had strong nails and I kept them short because I don't like typing with long nails.

Anyway, successfully grew my nails and went and got some maybelline nail varnish. I got into doing my nails, the polish would last about a week. Then I remember years ago I used a base coat, so after about three weeks of painting my nails, I got some base coat and had a further two weeks. Then one nail broke and I hate having nails of all different lengths so I cut them all short with the intention of starting again.

That's where the problem started; my nails looked yellow and were all chipped and breaking and in a really bad way and even now, 6-8 weeks later they still haven't recovered. Do you think it's because I didn't use a base coat from the start?
