Fungus or Weak Nails?

Both my big toes have peeling nails...but only on one side. If this makes sense, the part that peels is the side that is next to the other toes. My nails are not thick or yellow. They look very normal, but I can peel them. Sometimes they feel like ingrown nails...and they bother me, and the only way to relieve the pain/pressure is to peel them (gross huh?). So right now, the nails don't look like they're all there. I don't mean to imply that I only have half a nail.

Should I talk to my doctor about this...or does this happen to everyone.

TIA for any suggestions!

Re: Fungus or Weak Nails?

Pressure from the toes being jammed together in your shoes can cause the nail plate to split at the point of pressure. Rather than peel them off, use a nail file to file away the area that presses against the sides. If the nails are ingrown, you can purchase an ingrown nail file and remove the area that grows inward.
