    Ingrown (finger!)nails (+ toenails)

Ok. So at one time there were little thingies (don't know the word in English, someone knows what I mean?) next to my nails and I can't stand any thingies next to my nail so I started to cut them off, and so it began to get worse.

It is to a point where the upper sides hurt when there is pressure on them, they are sometimes red, callous is formed at the sides and when I don't keep cutting off the nail grows at the sides and looks pretty awful. I sometimes can't get to the dirt at the side of my nails. (my toe nails stink)

I have an appointment with the doctor but I'm scared that she will say that 'it's not that bad' or 'not bad enough' and I should keep cutting my nails horizontally straight. I actually want to get a narcosis or something, and get all my fingernails and the two big toenails removed.

Maybe some of you can tell me what chance I have she will agree? Also I wonder, is it possible that some nails of some humans (because of the type of nails/form) are just not meant to be cut off totally straight, since this only helps to get them ingrown? My mother thinks that's so with her nails and that I better cut them off a little round. Only it seems her nails are somewhat ingrown as well only she doesn't notice it.

I'm just worried about this, I want my nails to look good, I want to be able to have the manicurelook and it doesn't seem it will ever look better without the cut them all out-thing.

Does anyone have any experience with removing the (finger)nails? How long does the healing process takes and what about pain?

Also...if she agrees, should I insist going to a specialist and if so, what kind? I know that removing the toenail usually is something that can be done by the doctor, but it's both finger and toenails and it is a surgery, so I don't want them to mess up.
