curved, thick toenails - hurt!!

I've always had very curved and thick toenails. They're very hard to cut with clippers because of the thickness. I've had bouts with ingrown toenails before, so I'm very careful not to keep the toenails too short. I'm in a catch-22 though - if they are short, they become ingrown and infected. If they are longer, the curves of the toenails on the sides press into the skin and hurt, and the toenail itself gets pushed by my shoe and is sore. I can't seem to win!

Go get the ingrown portion of nail removed and keep the nails short so there is very little free edge. Tuck your clippers so you can cut away any sharp corners at the sides. You can also tuck some cotton under the sides to lift them up. Once you get the cotton under the sides, you can put a drop of peroxide onto the cotton or soak the cotton with antibacterial ointment. When ingrown nails are allowed to get longer, they curve even more which makes them more painful. If they are thick, you can always thin them out some with a white block buffer or a 250 grit nail file.
