Exclamation Should I pull my nail out?

My finger was slammed in a door, so it swelled and the nail separated from the nail bed. The nail began to discolor, but otherwise it looked like nothing happened. The cuticle did NOT begin to rise, and I haven't seen a new nail begin to grow underneath, which leads me to believe the nail root was not damaged. I planned on just letting the nail grow or fall out, but I had another accident that ripped part of the nail out.

The right side of the proximal nail fold is cut open, so about 1/8" of nail is exposed past the cuticle. Also, the soft tissue that normally overlaps the nail to hold it in place was ripped (separated from proximal nail fold) and is now tucked slightly under the right side of the nail. The left side is of the nail is completely fine.

It basically looks like someone cut a little section of my nail fold off to expose the corner of the nail behind the cuticle, and then peeled the side of the nail up a little bit. But my nail is also slightly angled now.

Should I pull it out or not? I'm worried that the nail is still connected to the root and that the nail fold would be further damaged if I pulled the nail out.

What do you think, Doc?
