What's wrong with my pinky toenails?

I'm sorry if I 'm not posting in the correct section. I've had this problem with both of my toenails since I was born. My dad has the same problem as I do. It bothers me because I'm afraid to wear sandals. Both of my pinky toenails feel very rough and it looks like a small rock instead of an actual toenail. Does anyone else have this problem?
