Question neuropathy type pain killing my feet every day

Three months ago I was perfectly healthy and I do not have diabetes. Originally I thought the stinging in my toe was from my new cycles shoes that I learned were too small and the toe box was hurting my toes. I was certain it was Mortin's Neuroma. I had a EMG test taken and told I have peripheral neuropathy. Was but on Gabapentin 6 days ago. Now my feet not only tingle but have a shock like stinging from the toes up my leg. Their is also pain on the bottom of my feet with the stinging everyday. Walking is very difficult and driving my SUV is almost impossible. I'm am very depressed and only want my life back.

Any chance you have had epidural steroid injections, other invasive injections, or back surgeries on your lower spine?

I had some normal foot and back pains but on the whole I was in great shape and cycled over 1000 miles when this condition hit me.

Unhappy Re: neuropathy type pain killing my feet every day

Today I'm having a bad day again. Not only are both my feet stinging, I have a pain up my right leg just below the knee. It seem to be coming from my foot and shooting up and not from my spline.

hey Rob.....maybe time for a 2nd opinion ? suggest a neurologist as the next step. I have good results w/the gabapentin....but there are other meds such as cymbalta, lyrica etc....also, suggest an ortho with back/spine experience....things could be narrowing....just thoughts my friend

rob - gabapentin has a LOT of leeway...after you've been on a certain dosage, your dr can increase it slowly...i started at 600 mg and am 2100 mg now...here's hoping your next appt. goes well and they are able to give you some relief !!! don't give up ! get a 2nd or 3rd opinion and soon you too will be doing the hokey pokey !

Today I visited my Foot Doctor and he administered a steroid injection in the nerve that runs around the side of my ankle. We will have see if this has any effect relieving the pain.

Re: neuropathy type pain killing my feet every day

The shot did nothing and I'm not going for anymore. I upped my med's to 1800mg and seems to be helping some what. My feet still go crazy if I go shopping and walk around the stores too much. I can drive better now the stinging is bearable but wish it would stop some day. I pray every day that this terrible disorder would just stop before it drives me crazy.

Lightbulb Re: neuropathy type pain killing my feet every day

All the doctors thinK it's Neuropathy because of my EMG test were somewhat below normal.. Another doctor also looked at the test he said it was only a mild form of nerve damage. I have told the doctors over an over that I have had nerve problems in area's like in the back of my knee's and elbows for many years. Had a EMG test on my left arm many years ago and was told I might loss felling in my hand... years later and my hand is still about the same! So I really believe that I have had this damage for many years without any serious problems. I'm thinking that this maybe sports related due to my amount of time I cycle and last was wearing ill fitted road shoes that were too small. I did some hard biking and sprinting in those shoe 's like over 400 miles. So my wife thinks I should see a doctor that specialist in Sports medicine / orthopedic
