One of my sleep studies indicated that I might have REM behavior disorder.
I started using 3 mg of melatonin and I find that it helps. if I wake up early (4am) which is common I will take 1 mg of melatonin and that does help the effect last all night.
The disorder is more likely to be active after midnight as the proportion of REM sleep begins to increase. This can make it difficult to detect in split lab sleep studies where the second half of the night is the CPAP or BiPAP part of the study. Those machines can apparently help mask REM behavior disorder.
But I know at home even with the machine the disorder was acting up in the mornings.
