My feet feel like ive got thick socks on

Hi I'm not exactly a young person, being 68, but I'm not diabetic. My doctor thinks the strange feeling in my feet - feel sort of numb, although theyre not - and very tight on the top of them is due to peripheral neuopathy and doesn't seem to think there is much to worry about. They also feel as if I've got thick socks on and padded toes. Very wierd. I'd always assumed it was to do with my bad spinal condition but my doc said it's not as both feet feel the same. Does anyone else on here have this without anything else wrong with them? I don't get any pain. I'm just worried. Thank you if you can answer this.

Re: My feet feel like ive got thick socks on

Hi Sarah - Your symptoms may indicate neuropathy, in which case you should see a neurologist, who will do tests to determine if there is and the extent of nerve damage. As there are many causes of neuropathy other than diabetes, a good neurologist will do many tests to see if a cause can be determined (in which case the cause can sometimes be treated thus improving the neuropathy). Some neuropathies however are ideopathic, i.e., medical science can't determine the cause. I have neuropathy, in my case small fiber neuropathy, without any other medical conditions, so it can happen. Good luck. - Ruby

Sarah, I have neuropathy in both feet due to spinal issues. Symptoms much the same as yours. I have lumbar stenosis and also had cervical surgery. It's not always necessarily just one side that's affected.

Exactly the same symptoms but as a result of pelvic surgery and radiotherapy. It's irritating more than anything and I seem to be more aware of the weird feeling when I am in bed. Alpha Lipoic Acid tablets have helped me but they don't appear to work for all.
