Re: MTHFR - confused

<Maybe> you are compound heterozygous for the MTHFR polymorphism. You may have a limited ability to break down synthetic folic acid (the type of folate found in enriched foods as well as most supplements). This would put you at risk for folate deficiency related pregnancy complications. I live in New Orleans so I can't help you with a doctor but when you find one, you must want to ask her about L-methylfolate. NeevoDHA is a prenatal specifically indicated for women with MTHFR. It contains active L-methylfolate as an alternative to synthetic folic acid. L-methylfolate is 7 times more bioavailable than folic acid. It increases folate levels and decreases homocysteine levels more effectively than folic acid. It is something simple and safe you can do to be certain MTHFR-related folate deficiency is not an issue for you while trying to conceive or during pregnancy.

I hope you are able to find a great doctor and I wish you the very best of luck!
