Help, I'm very scared

Hello,

I just noticed that I have a node on the side of my neck. This has never happened to me before so I'm very scared right now. I'm crying and I don't know what to do. Does that mean I have cancer?

I went to the dentist on monday and had my wisdom tooth extracted. I came back 2 days later and they said it was healing fine but they also told me that I have periodontitis.

I only noticed the node today. It doesn't seem to be infected since it doesn't hurt and it's not discolored. I heard that nodes can sometimes be caused by infection but I don't think it's the cause.

What do I do? Should I call my doctor? It's saturday so I don't know if they're open. I'm meeting my dentist again this week. Do I wait until then and ask if it is infected and if he says no then go to my primary doctor?

What if it's cancerous? I don't want to wait.

Have you guys ever experienced anything like this? Or know anyone who has?
Please help me, I don't know what to do.

It's probably just inflamed or infected. It's very common and nothing to be worried about. They don't usually even give antibiotics for it. I've found that drinking warm liquids really helps - like hot tea, cocoa, etc.

It is highly likely that it is a gland reacting to any mild infection. Go to a doctor immediately and don't let your ruminations take hold. The sooner you do this the better, not because it is likely to be anything serious, but to put an end to your worry.
