I caused an accident and I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm relatively new to driving. I'm almost 18 years old. I was driving down a small hill under an overpass and i changed into the left lane, the cars were at a red light. I tried to apply the brakes but they just weren't working. I there was too much ice and i lost control of my car. I hit the van in front of me. It was really bad. My car was badly damaged but the van wasn't that bad. But i just can't stop thinking about the accident. I keep telling myself that there were cars in the other lane but i honestly don't think there were and that i should have done a quick sharp turn but I just didn't. The ice made me pick up speed and i tried braking and it didn't work so i just braced for impact and hit really hard. I don't want to drive anymore i'm just scared. And i get these moments that i just blank out and think of the impact and the accident and i freeze. I don't know what to do.
I don't know what i'm doing here right now i just needed somewhere to talk about this. Thank you for listening.

This is very normal. You are a young driver and made a mistake in weather conditions you weren't accustomed to . See if there is a driver's ed course in your area. It could be beneficial.

I totaled my parents Mercury Comet when I was 16 in a head on collision but survived and so did the other guy. It was an accident as yours so you let the insurance companies handle it and learn by it. Life gives us many lessons to learn from. Worry takes away from that. I remember after I got out of the hospital that I didn't want to drive anymore. My dad told me to drive his other car and get that out of my system. He was right and I never looked back. Good luck and remember worry helps nothing.

don't worry, it happens everyday and everywhere... you are new to driving, and even experts sometimes can't handle with such situation and you did everything you could and that was right.

h I'm sorry you're in such pain.

You did what you could. You had bad luck and there's no way to undo what happened. But nobody died. These things happen to all of us.
I've totalled several cars and I don't care. It's just metal. I've since become a much better driver by continuing to build experience and so will you.
Onwards! Only by driving you will become better at it. No need to be perfectionst. :-) Come-on, hundreds of accidents like that happen every day and most people just forget about it and move on. This memory will fade, trust me. Good luck!
