    Fever and Chills, Recent Surgery

I recently had back surgery (about two weeks prior to this post). I developed a varying temp (between 99.3 and 101.5) which is very abnormal for me. Technically these are not fever temps, but the last time I had an infection related to a surgery was 2 years ago after a shoulder replacement. That required 4 additional surgeries to take out the prosthesis, put in cement spacers, and then I needed a PICC line with antibiotics. In this case, they put a cage in at L5 of the spine, which required 3 hours of surgery.

This feels very much like the shoulder case, wher temp started low and I had chills, but no symptoms of a cold. My shoulder did not hurt either. It turned out to be a very serious infection.

How do I deal with this given the doctors are saying my temp is too low to be an infection?

    Dear alles,

When the body is healing the temp can be a little higher than usual. And, temp normally fluctuates some. That's not a problem. You aren't in a danger zone for now.

You may be reacting out of fear of infection. Are you on pain meds?

Keep in mind that this is now and the past is past. Don't allow fear to control you.
