    MS or anxiety?

    Hi all,

Im 33 years old and for the past three weeks Ive experienced numbness intermittently in my face (majority right side) and my right leg feels heavy and numb at times. This feeling took me to the ER on Thursday where I had an overnight stay to do tests.

The ECG was considered abnormal by the first doctor and normal by the second. They did, however, mention MS. I have an MRI Thursday - the first I've ever had & to be honest I'm so scared. I have been forgetful lately as well - for I'd say the past 6 months but I don't know whether that's down to stress & occasionally I see floaters in front of my eyes when I go into the light etc

I'm also thinking back to when I was 19 and went to the Er with extreme tightness across my chest - worried this is MS hug.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello!
In my opinion, you should show a neurologist. tightness in the face, floaters in front of your eyes, heaviness in the ling can also mean something is going in the brain. I would recommend you consult a neurologist before making any assumptions,

Hi..first off, I have MS and have had it for over 15 years now...probably longer, but thats as long as Ive been diagnosed.

Your symptoms could be one of 10,000 things- none of your symptoms are exclusive to MS.

Tightness in the chest is not the MS hug. The MS hug is a very quick, stabbing pain which lasts seconds....it usually either goes away for months or years OR it keeps happening every few hours for weeks on end... once, is not the MS hug.

Numbness in the face is not a MS thing...it could be TMJ or even Bells Palsy...it is not a common symptom in MS patients.

Floaters are never a sign of MS and an ECG is not a standard test for MS...an MRI of the brain, brainstem and Cspine is...and unless they see demylination- its likely to show nothing.

Where are you getting all of these things which you think are MS related? Are you reading Dr Google? Please do not read the net or symptom checkers. Go see a neurologist, You could see an MS specialist who can DX or rule out MS, but get yourself checked out. Your symptoms do not sound like they are going to result in MS, but they do sound like you are exhibiting allot of health anxiety...is this normal for you to be so freaked out.

Just as a side note, my MS has done absolutely nothing to hinder me.. I have gotten 4 college degrees, gotten married and raised 3 kids since my diagnosis. I work out daily and travel for work (50 hours a week)...MS is the last thing you should be worried about!

Try to relax and let us know what your results are when you see someone other than an ER doctor.

I kept wondering why your doctors mentioned MS. I thought MS is very difficult to diagnose. But after checking information from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, I see that it is a possibility: In other words, it could be the result of a demyelinating disorder. Possibly, the clue they picked up on was numbness on the right side of your face and leg. (Perhaps if it was just your face or just your leg they might not have thought that.)

However, at this point it's just a suspicion and that's why more testing is needed. It could certainly be something else.

As a side note, I'd be interested in knowing what type of diet you're on. Are you on a low carb diet like Atkins, Paleo, or Keto? There are so many of them it would be difficult to list them all. The reason I bring this up is because more and more doctors think that autoimmune diseases like MS are brought about by diet and other lifestyle issues.
