    Confused about social distancing

I hear that you shouldn't have anyone over or go to someone's house at all unless it's essential or unless it's no more than 10 people. Then I hear to not go out at all unless it's essential. My sister's family always came over for dinner once a week and it's never even 10 people. So was that ok or did they say absolutely no gathering at all, no matter the number? 10 people or less for the public gathering only or for all kinds of gatherings, even less than 10 people in the house and just living down the street? All of us has been self-quarantining to stay safe and without symptoms at all. Neither household have had company.

Even if the "rules" allow your sister's family over for dinner, you're still exposing yourself unnecessarily.

"Even if the "rules" allow your sister's family over for dinner"

That's actually all I wanted to know. I suppose even if it's just two people, they're still exposing themselves and each other. So I guess "10 people or less" is pointless. You'll still get exposed. Only way to avoid infection is to never get out of the house, not even for essentials and to move out until just one person lives in one residence but we know all of that is impossible especially avoiding essentials like groceries to feed ourselves to stay alive. Even if just two people lived together, it's still a risk for exposure. That's why we have to be cautious like washing our hands, disinfecting doors, knobs, tables and switches, covering our coughs and sneezes and keeping our distance from each other, even in the house. All of those which too many people ignore and now here we are.

Your post anticipated the news today:

Dr. Birx said that recommendations against gatherings of more than 10 do not mean people should be having dinner parties or cocktail parties of less than 10 people.

And you still have to stay 6ft apart...watch videos of city counci/etc. meetings...they space people out around the room...and only have 10 people or less

Weird this just came out today. It's like she was reading this thread!

Well if that's the case, there's no point in telling people to be 6 feet apart because if you have 0 people gathering anywhere, then you got no one to distance yourself from!

    Re: Confused about social distancing

Every state is different by the way...in my State, we cannot have more than 5 people at any gathering and even then, if you are not directly related or living with those 5 people, you are not allowed to do it.

No one should be visiting unnecessarily. Just because you "stayed home" and have no symptoms, does not mean that you were not exposed or that you cant give it to someone if you are a carrier... do you mean to tell me NOT ONE PERSON IN THE FAMILY went food shopping or left the house for 14 days?

Even if they went out for an hour and wore a mask and gloves, they can still get it.

Do yourself a favor and avoid any "visits" with anyone who MAY have left their house in the past 14 days.
