I need some help discribing my symptoms to my Doctor. I have suffered from chronic Tension Headaches for years that can last up to a week at time and resent have gotten what was first thought to be another that has gone on for about 4wks now it started out as neck and shoulder pain and a normal headache but then progresses to excrusiating pain all over my head that nothing would get rid of. After 4 trips in 1 week to the ER I was admited and when then pain subsided released from the hospital. The problem is that even though the pain has subsided I am having vision trouble and numbness on the right side of my face but the Doctors dont seem to want to listen when I tell them this is there a more medical or educated way I can discribe this to them

Re: Headaches

You shouldn't need to describe your symptoms in any other way than exactly what you're telling us here. Numbness (paresthesia is the medical term) should prompt the doctors to take you seriously. "Vision problems" is vague however. What exactly are you experiencing? Is it constant or only intermittent?

Given that you are a migraine sufferer, you are probably aware that abnormal sensations in the face can be associated with migraine, and also visual disturbances with or without pain can also be part of migraine.

When you told them about these extra symptoms what EXACTLY was their response?

Re: Headaches

what zuzu has told you is absolutely true. having been a migraine sufferer for going on 30 years, i must tell you that it took years to have them diagnosed properly because the pain was not the overall symptom. more importantly to me was the "aura" (vision problems), numbness in the face and hand, and also trouble with my speech. after a battery of tests, (EEG, glucose tolerance, and CT scan) i was diagnosed with migraines. however, mine never lasted longer than 3 days and were sporatic. others are not that lucky. push for tests and a diagnosis...
