Cooking with Aluminum Foil

Is it safe to cook with Aluminum foil? I line the pan in my microwavable oven with it and I have heard that heating aluminum foil generates a really toxic fume. Does this fume get absorbed into the food I cook with my oven? I am really concerned about this and I'd be really grateful with a quick and imformative reply.

Thank you all.

I've never heard anything about it being dangerous to cook with in a conventional oven. However, you should not put aluminum foil (or any other metal) in a microwave oven. That can be dangerous because it makes sparks and can damage your oven or start a fire.

Re: Cooking with Aluminum Foil

Kehorner is right - you don't put aluminum in the microwave EVER. This article you mention here refers to cooking in aluminum pots. The aluminum can chip off over time causing you to ingest it and/or absorb into your food. Covering oven foods with aluminum foil is not going to harm you.

When using the microwave, cover your foods with a paper towel. Don't use Saran wrap either - when it touches or melts onto your foods, it is toxic.

Re: Cooking with Aluminum Foil

I will at times use aluminum foil in the oven or on the grill. It doesn't emit any fumes as far as I can tell.
