Constant sore throats, before and after tonsils removed!
Quick summary: for the past say, two + years I get sore throats and ear infections every few weeks. I'm a college student so you can imagine how frustrating it is so be sick all the time. I had my tonsils removed last summer, a month later I was sick again. My doctor sent me to a infectious disease specialist. He found I had this bacteria that causes post-nasal drip and theorized I had this other bacteria that causes sore throats in my age group and was resistant to penicilin, which is what I had been taking to stop the problem, He couldn't prove I had it though. So, it's been about 2 months since I've seen this doctor.
It hasn't helped much. For the past few weeks I'll come down suddenly with a terrible sore throat. I get white ulcers in the back of my throat as well. I also get small red ones that have not 'popped' yet. Last night, for example, my throat became very red with what looked like little red veins all over. It was a cluster of those little red veins that caused the most pain. It feels like that discomfort you get when you sleep all night breathing through your mouth, plus ulcers. Luckily it usually goes away in under 48 hours.
What is this? I'm so frustrated. I d everything every doctor tells me, but they can never make it go away. I basically had strep so bad at one point they just had to wait until they took my tonsils out to cure it. Now I don't get strep so much, but just the usual ear-throat trouble.
At least I don't have to get my tonsisl out again... I always joke with my mother that the doctor left some in there and that they are growing back.
PS- the post nasal drip also went away rather quickly with allergy medicine
