    Duodenitis?

Hi, I'm a 19 year old female, and was just told I have 'inflammation in my small intestine'. That's okay, except now I'm worrying about it all the time. I was told it is either due to a duodenal ulcer, H. Pylori bacteria or Celiac Disease. Is there any other things that can cause this? And how long can a person have this before something serious can come about from it. A.K.A cancer? (I don't know how long I've had this for, but I've felt sick for like a year atleast now, but just got a test for it FINALLY about a week ago) Everything I'm reading says that it leads to cancer.. are they talking a few years, or do they mean 10 years down the road it may make you prone to it? And what do barium tests show for your upper GI? I had one of those taken that determined that I had duodenal inflammation. They said my stomach looked fine, and i'm now on pills or pump inhibitors or something for the next two weeks. I hope I'm just worrying for nothing, but any information about this would be appreciated. And is this (duodenitis) something SERIOUS? or... just annoying?

    Re: Duodenitis?

Hi i been feeling sick for like a year aswell with duodenitis (inflammed duodenum) . I havent found any thing that helps get rid of the inflamation at all. mine seems to go in waves however i cant ever figure out what i did to make progress. Im going to look in to this gluten diet thing. By the way if you having trouble eating enough food to maintain your weight try drinking "ensures" There great i drink three a day and eat three little meals they dont bother my inflamation at all and ive managed to put a little weight back on while i wait this thing out. Good luck

    Re: Duodenitis?

hey ryan... see, I have no problem with my weight, I'm pretty normal actually. it's just my stomach's always hurting and feels like I'm always hungry even when I just ate. AND the whole x-ray thing telling me I had inflammation. It's like I knew SoMeThiNg was wrong, and just found out what. But yeah, can you just live with it? Like is it not life threatening? And that's hwat I'm scared of, that they don't find out what's causing it and it just keeps getting worse. Did they not tell you to go to a specialist at all? I'm going to try that no gluten, but only after they do a endoscopy to diagnose it, cause i read like every web page imaginable and they all said not to stop until you get diagnosed, otherwise they won't be able to diagnose it. Makes sense if i worded that right... but how long have you had that? And what could happen? Like I was told briefly what it meant and what it could lead to.. and it's just when I have free time that I worry about it and think of all these scenario's.. but if it isn't ThAt bad.. then... that's fine with me..lol.. (well not fine, but i atleast wont worry so much) and good luck to u tooo.. ask a dr. about the gluten thing too so they can monitor it. Google 'celiac disease' to learn more, I don't know all the details right off hand.. just if ur curious.

    Re: Duodenitis?

Ive been to a few gastroenteroligists (stomach specialists) my syptoms started out as a pain in my middle right side when i drank. After more alchol and coffea abuse i suddenly had this ongoing nausea that would not go away. I was told by my first doctor i probably had gastritis which is an inflammation of the stomach lining. I went on perscription antacids and was told to not drink for three weeks. I didnt drink for 9 months. However it doesnt seem to get any better. After 4 months i had an endoscope in which they found mild gastritis nothing else. However when they looked at the biopsy of my duodenum it was inflammed so i was diagnosed with chronic duodenitis. Lately its been toleratble. Ive found drinking a lot of water helps a bit and not eating to much also helps. Im wondeing if its not somthing like celiacs.

    Re: Duodenitis?

hi ryne.. I just want to tell you, that once you get on this diet there is no going back.. your body will get used to eating much more healthy.. and, it will want to eat that way. You will probably react if you eat anything containing gluten.. this will be an indication that your body doesnt like gluten. Tis very worth it.. iv never felt better in my life, im 39 and, feel like a kid.. I just stay onn the diet and, im ok..Never cheat tho, it will make me sick for days.

if there is no change that means somwhere you are cheating.. .. gluten is everywhere and, it takes an ol' pro like me to tell ya. What are you eating exactly? and, what are drinking? are you on pills.. do you chew gum? what tooth paste are you using.?? Yup gluten is big. Just a little tiny gluten can give me a big headache.. but, atleast I know and, I stay away from it.

    Re: Duodenitis?

yes i chew a lot of gum mostly trident , dentene and excel. There has been very little to no change but ive only been doing this for a few days how long did it take for you to relize a change. I drink mostly water and maybe apple juice or milk i eat a lot of eggs . I drink ensures but they have no gluten i looked on there website. I read that you have to do the gluten free diet for at least 3 weeks maybe months somtimes for any results is this consistant with your history.
