    Heart flutters? cause for concern?

Hello ive posted on the heart threads but no one has answered.

Im wondering if anyone else has expirienced this.

For the past 4 years ive had heart flutters. i noticed they got worse when i drank alot of coffee and soda. its been 4 days i have had NO caffeine and yet i still get them just maybe 4 or 5 a day. they dont hurt and i have no other pains. i went to ER last week and they did a EKG and chest xray and everything was normal. ive just been a little nervous about them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What you need to get is an EKG when you are experiencing heart flutters. Your EKG was normal because you weren't experiencing flutters at that time.

Caffeine might be the cause, but since you've been off of it for 4 days and you're still getting the flutters, I'd let your MD know. He/She may give you a Holter Monitor, which is kind of like an EKG that (but with out alot of the wires) and records every heart beat for 24 hours, usually. That way, when you do get the flutters, the MD can anaylse it.

How old are you if I may ask? Do you take any blood pressure meds or heart medications? It's good that at least you don't feel any symptoms during the flutter.

    im 28

I can definitely see the difference from when i was drinking caffeine though. i had a lot of them.

i remember having them monitered way back when i first started getting them and i guess they were no concern but its still scary. i mainly only get them now when i lay down for bed.

Seek a heart doc to get a complete check out if you are concerned. EKG Echo and stress test (injected). This are the best way to ensure you ahve no underlying problems. Better being safe than sorry. You are young and are probably okay, but one never knows. Stress and PTDS can also cause the same in you have been in a recent trauma situation.

Some meds will impact this...antihistamines with decongestants. Also, chocolate has caffeine. A tip for when it happens - cough and it should go away.

Thanks so much for the replies

Yeah someone else told me to cough while it happens also.

i think i may have a touch of acid reflux. and ive heard that can cause them also.

I was having pinching feeling in chest accompanied by "burps" thats when i went to ER and dr said nothing was wrong and was the "gas" i guess gas pains can feel the same and also travel to arms.

I have been having trouble with my left arm but when i notice it aching i tend to notice i holding it a wrong way and if i move it around it quits.

My daughter is almost 10 months old and i hold her on that side which could be another cause of the achiness in that arm. But if i were having a attack or something the ekg would of picked it up because i went there as i was having the pinching feeling and nothing showed.

    Its just very scary.
