    Earring Backs

    Some of my relatives came over today, and it turned out they bought me a bunch of adorable earrings. The only problem was that the backs/part you put in your ear is plastic...

    I've never worn plastic earrings before, and I was wondering if they're okay for your ears. I've had my ears pierced for about 2 years or so, and I've only worn stainless steel or gold of some sort.

    Basically, my question is, do plastic backs increase your chance of infection? Also, are they harmful? Not very descriptive, I know, but if anyone could give me an answer, I'd be grateful! =)

    I wear plastic backs all the time and never get an infection. If you do start to get an infection do this: neosporn your ear and the earring and stick it through your ear. Also clean with alcohol at least 2x a day.

    Umm... I thought alcohol was bad for your ears. When I got my ears pierced at Claire's, the lady said something about alcohol that I can't quite remember, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a good thing. ^^;

    I think the reason they tell you not to use alcohol is so they can sell you their own little bottle of "mystery solution" and bleed you for even more money. Haha!!!

    Re: Earring Backs

    I have a problem with the plastic backs on earrings. I've had my ears pierced since I was about 10 years old (am 27 now). My mom and grandmother have this exact same problem... If I wear anything but 14kt gold, or sensitive silver earrings, my ears get VERY irritated, and end up getting infected after only wearing them for one day. Then it takes a few days of cleaning them with alcohol pads and wearing the "right" kind of earrings to clear it up. We must have some sort of sensitivity or something, but it happens every time without fail! It's very frustrating!
