Hip/Groin pain after cesarean section

I am very new to these boards, so please be patient.

My daughter, Candace, had her first (and last) baby almost 9 months ago. She had 32 hours of back labor, 2 failed epidurals, and finally a c-section. Since Day 1 after Braydon was born, she began complaining of hip & groin pain. Well since she had just had a c-section she assumed that was the cause of her pain. She was also diagnosed with major post-partum depression and OCD. As Braydon began putting on weight (9 pounds later he weighs in at 26 pounds), she started complaining more & more about her pain. She also took a fall backwards into their bedroom wall (they had her totally overmedicated for the post-partum) and she actually cracked the wall. She said she had no pain from the fall. Well, a couple weeks later she leaned over to pick her son up out of his crib and the following morning she was in excruciating pain. She called me to come watch the baby, went to her family doctor who did an x-ray and said she was having muscle spasms. She put her on vicodin & sent her home. Well, things only continued to get worse. Her pain is CONSTANT now and is mainly located in her hip and groin area. This is where the pain has been located since the day after Braydon was born. She has seen 2 family doctors, 2 orthopedic surgeons, 2 ob/gyns, 2 emergency room doctors and has had X-ray, MRI, Bone Scan, and ultra-sound that was ordered by the ob/gyn. All tests have been negative. She also has seen a "supposedly" qualified Pein Management Neurologist and received 2 pain blocks (which hurt like hell for days afterward) for sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The neurologist says he can't help her and has recommended we go to the Cleveland Clinic. We are in Dayton, Ohio, so that will be a little bit of a drive. However, we are willing to do anything to STOP THE PAIN.

CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP US?

A very worried Mom & First-time Grandmother

Re: Hip/Groin pain after cesarean section

I don't know if this will be any help to you but my cousin had a C section & was in terrible pain for 3/4 months after the procedure had been performed. By this time the wound had healed completely but she saw the Doctor & was told her C section was infection but new skin had grown over it. She was prescribed pain killers & antibiotics (I think it was a intense course of antibiotics) & she's fine now & hasn't been in pain since.

Perhaps your daughter should get a blood test off her doctor to check her white cell count. If its high then you can bet she has a infection somewhere.

Do you know that not one of the so-called doctors has ever done a blood test on her. We absolutely cannot believe that no one has suggested any type of infection. You better believe, I will get right on it. Thanks so much for your reply.

Your welcome hun & I'm glad I was of some help. But I could be miles off. I thought I would mention it because my cousin had similar symptoms. :) Definitely make the Doctors perform lots of different blood tests, including a complete hormonal balance check. Best to get everything sorted while she's at the Doctors. Good luck
