    Question Colon Adhesions Anyone?

So here's the deal...I have had lower abdominal pain sice November of '07. I finally had my gynecologyst (I had thought maybe it was endometriosis) do a Laparoscopy today. Found NO Endometriosis, just colon adhesions.

Does anyone know what the procedure is to get rid of this? I believe it is a Colonoscopy? If anyone has had any experience with this problem, please talkto me. I need to know more about this...

I have not had any othe symptoms besides lower abdonimal pain and occasional back pain (may not have anything to do with it).

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: Colon Adhesions Anyone?

I battle severe abdominal adhesions following several surgeries relating to endometriosis. The surgery to remove adhesions is called lysis - the problem with this procedure is that any surgery has the potential to cause more adhesions A colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure wherein a camera is inserted through the colon to check inside the colon (and I believe the intestinal track) for polyps and any other irregularities. Adhesions are horrible and, unfortunately, many doctors refuse to perform surgical removal for the reason that doing so can cause more to form. I am having my first surgical procedure to remove adhesions in January. Since mine are in the lower abdomen, pelvic region, my doctor is a pelvic pain specialist...I am not certain whether that would be the same specialist you would want. What does your ob/gyn suggest? That's where I would start. Good luck! ~Katie

    Re: Colon Adhesions Anyone?

    Hi Katie,

Thanks for the reply. After the surgery the doctor (ob/gyn) spoke with my mom. At the post-op appointment, he didn't even mention anything about the adhesion so I broguth it up. He said he seperated a part of my colon which is normally found in patients. He didn't act like it was a big deal, so I haven't really been thinking about it too much and have come to realize that my problem could be a minor beginning of IBS. I am just trying to eat better and exercise more. It seems to come and go, but hasn't been too bad lately.

Best of luck to you for your January surgery!
