what does it mean if your body temperature is consistently at 97 degrees?

Are you worried because it is not 98.6 degrees? That is okay. 98.6 is the average normal temp, but certainly not the only normal temp.
If yours is always 97 and always has been, then all is fine.

Not to be flippant but that's just the way it is :-). My mother's temp was 96.8 (that is not a typo) all her life and she lived to 91. BUT let me tell you getting her out of the hospital after an accident took me HOURS and a call from her doctor states away who convinced the attending physician "the woman is normal"!
