Muscle Popping with IM Rod in femur

In 2009 when I was 12, I broke my right femur about 5 inches above my knee playing soccer. I was told it was a clean break, and had surgery with putting an intramedullary rod through the top of my hip. I still have the rod in my bone, and none of the screws have been removed either. Every once in a while, I have week-long series of popping above my knee on the inside of my leg. It is somewhat painful, but not too bad. Its been years since I have even talked to my orthopedist about anything, and I could use some professional or semi-professional advice.

What should I do?
Get screws or the rod or both removed?
Leave it alone?
Anything to prevent the popping?

Re: Muscle Popping with IM Rod in femur

Well, the muscle popping might not be due to the screws. I get muscles popping all the time, especially in areas where I've had injuries in the past, and I have no hardware in my bones at all.

One thing that might help is to gently stretch the muscle a couple times a day, or massage it with your hands. If that does't work, go back to the orthopedist and see what he says.
