    Osteoporosis

Had 4 prolia shots for osteoporosis. Very minute improvement. People tell me that is normal. Thought it would get much better. See my endocrinologist next week.

    Re: Osteoporosis

With a long list of possible side effects, it hardly seems worth the risk for only a "very minute improvement". If your doctor is honest, he would tell you there's no cure for Osteoporosis and he would stop putting your health at risk by experimenting with drugs. Sorry if that sounds harsh but I believe it to be true.

The best treatment is to eat a healthy diet and get some careful, weight bearing exercise. Get your calcium from natural whole foods like dark leafy greens.

About the "improvement": Improvement in what way? As far as I am aware, there's no test for bone strength. Increased density does not necessarily mean increased bone strength.

I'm also not sure what you mean by improvement. You won't know if it's working until your next DEXA scan. I wouldn't dare take any of the meds unless my scores were in the high 3s to 4s. Osteoporosis doesn't begin till -2.5 so anywhere near that and I would try other things. Are you on or have you ever discussed using HRT? My score went from
-1.9 to -1 and -1.4 over a span of 6years. My sister who is one year younger and is also on HRT is at -1.0. The head of the osteoporosis clinic at the univeristy medical center in my town attributes the bone increase solely to the HRT and dismissed me from her care.

When you get retested, be sure to get tested on the same type of equipment made by the same manufacturer. I don't know if it is still the same today but some years ago I read that different manufacturers calibrate their equipment differently. So you might get a result of low bone mass when tested in one clinic and normal results in another if the equipment is different.
