    Can't absorb Calcium

72 y/o female w/osteoporosis - have tried every drug in the world and still shrinking - Dr proposes a new one but side effects terrify me.

Have been tested in more ways than I can count and although Calcium levels are right in the middle of "normal" and I am being told that my body does not absorb calcium to build bone.

I exercise, eat right and am considered to be in VERY good health for my age.

    Thoughts?
    Experiences?

A couple of questions: Are you taking Vit D3 with the calcium? And what are your Dexa Scan scores? And do you do any weight work - walking with ankle or hand weights, etc.? And last but not least, are you on estrogen?

Any and all....if it shows an aggregate score that is good. Above -2.5 is considered osteoporosis.

    Re: Can't absorb Calcium

    Neck - Left (-3) .2 decrease in 2 yrs
    Neck - Right (-2.8) .3 decrease in 2 yrs
    Spine - (-2.3) 1.0 decrease in 2 yrs

Took meds/shots, etc for years with no success - Dr proposed 2 yr hiatus to detox body - that's span between the two tests

Workout 3+ times/wk with weights and trainer - being pushed; walk 2-3 times/wk (20+ min), diet good most of the time

    Re: Can't absorb Calcium

No hip number is interesting. The 1. decrease from -1.3 to -2.3 is the most concerning to me. It's such a huge shift from the other 2. Does South Alabama have an osteoporosis clinic? Would be thru the rheumatology department most likely. UAB does and my ortho sent me there due to a situation we were pretty sure was something else but wanted validation. About a 6 hour session and more vials of blood than I could count but it verified that all was well and why. It would be beneficial to get a workup thru such a clinic. I'm assuming your testing was with your gyno?

    Re: Can't absorb Calcium

I have several Dr's I travel to in B-ham so I'll check woth South first but may even check w/ UAB as well.
Had been hoping top find others here that "don't absorb Ca+" for some direction re. what they did to counter.
Will let you know what I hear/find @ South.

    Thanks so much
