    Strontium and Food

The other night I contacted the manufacturer of my strontium and inquired as to if the supplement was better absorbed on an empty stomach or with food. Their reply was with food was preferable. As always, take strontium separate from your calcium intake. Just curious if others are taking their strontium with or without food. As a side note, had my annual physical this past week and my primary was not pushing fosamax or the like, and seemed content with the use of strontium supplementation.

Hi Todd...thats great that you got to talk to someone about strontium. What brand are you taking? I take NSI strontium, that bottle says to take with food. I think we've all gotten the "take on an empty stomach" thing from the way strontium renalate is taken. I take mine before bed and don't usually eat during the evening anyway, but if i do have a snack its nothing heavy, a piece of fruit or popsicle. Another thing the bottle says is to make sure you get at least 1000 mg. of calcium.

Its great that you PC is agreeable about you taking strontium. Mine knows i'm taking it and has seen the results, but he's still not sold on it enough to reccommend it to others with osteo. I wonder if the strontium malanate that's up for FDA approval comes to be if more dr. will start using for their osteo patients. But then again, who knows how long that process will take. take care...phyllis

    Talking Re: Strontium and Food

Todd, me too I agree with Phyllis that it is encouraging to know that the medical profession are agreeing with Strontium. I went to Osteop specialist the other day and he said the same.... continue with strontium tho there are no proven studies on citrate only ranalate which is not available to us.... I have been taking mine away from food. I contacted my manufacturing co here in canada and they told me they will be updating label to say take 2 capsules at the same time daily ideally away from supplements or food high in calcium and fiber so that is what i am doing.

Wow, Todd and Canna.....you actually found doctors who are supportive on your taking strontium? Guess neither of you live in Waterloo!
That's interesting that strontium can be taken with food; one reason I've stopped it is because I eat a bedtime snack, which means I couldn't take it before retiring, which means every time I got up around 1AM to go to the bathroom I'd take it then...with water...then I was up again to go to the bathroom a couple of hours later. Now, if I decide to go back on it, it will be easier as long as my nightly snack isn't cereal with milk.
