Normal DEXA results, anyone...?

hi everyone,

It seems like lately I have heard about so many people having DEXA scans, getting abnormal results, and being urged to begin treatment.
I know the statistics say that ~50% of women over 50 yrs have osteopenia (or is it osteoporosis?), so that means 50% should be in the normal range, right? So I am just curious how many of you on this site personally know someone who has had a DEXA and got back a normal result? I don't know of a single person (but that could just be because I have always lived in low sun-light and vitamin D deprived cities like Philly and Chicago...:) )

Well, there was a study done on the thousands of female participants in the 2001 summer senior olympics, and it was found that even up to age 80, over half the women participants had normal bone density.

I just had a dexa a week or so ago. I haven't seen the actual report and I won't until my doc appointment in two weeks but the nurse called just yesterday and read off the report saying everything in "normal range", no problem. I find this a bit hard to believe, although my scores have been improving, but I will let you all know for sure when I see the report. If it is indeed "normal" it will have been due to Ezorb and Vitamin D because I have not been able to exercise much due to a back condition. I did recently add Strontium to my regime but that has only been in the last month or so.

My sister (who lives in Chicago) recently had a bone density test that was normal.
