Bone turnover markers

I have osteo because of celiac disease. It is fully controlled and has been for the last 6 years. After taking forteo my doc put me on Bisphos to keep the gains. That was 3 years ago. I took actonel for a year got an ulcer and Reclast for the last two. Anyway, I have asked him if I really need to keep taking Reclast (I had no side reaction from Reclast short of the mild flu like symptoms for 3-4 days).

He said he could test for the bone turnover markers. He said as long as the reading was in the post-menopausal range I won't need them. Anyone know anything about these and what those numbers should look like? Are they accurate?
