Question hiker125

[FONT="Comic Sans MS"][/FONT
I have osteoporosis for many years. I have been taking Fozomax and Evista plus VitC +D. I was taken off of that and put on Forteo. My 2 yers is about up and now they want to put me on another bisphosphonate. I am 68 and I reallly do not want to take anything else. The Drs. talk as if I go off the medication the bone density will get bad again. The meds they have out all have so many side effects that it is even hard to chose one if I were to go on them again. There must be another way. Any suggestions?

Re: hiker125

Hi Hiker125, welcome to the board . I like you name, i take it you're a hiker? My husb and and i hike whenever we can. There is another option you could try and see if it works for you. I've been taking strontium citrate for many years and have had no side effects and and have seen gains in my density with each DEXA.

What are your scores from the latest DEXA? There are a few thing to think about like, do you have a family history of osteo, have you ever broken a bone, are you physically active, do you take any meds or have any conditions that can cause bone loss? Also, low density doesn't mean you will break a bone, it means that your risk of it are higher than some one with "normal" density. Have you read The Myth of Osteoporosis by Gillian Sansone? Its full of info about options, diet and exercise. Have you taken the FRAX test? Its a long list of questions that will give a better idea of your fracture risk. You can find it online. take care, phyllis
I am so much more than a score, I am strong, healthy, active and like to help others.
